A Ukrainian bridal brand has responded to the country’s war efforts against Russia by working overtime to create essential clothing for soldiers and medical personnel.
Already sold in bridal boutiques across the globe, Ukrainian label Milla Nova – which is best known for designing bridal couture – is now adding new garments to its bow: military nets, hoodies and army camouflage assault vests.
Chief Executive Officer of Milla Nova, Ulyana Kyrychuk, told CNN: “Along with making brides around the globe happy, we are focused on saving our country.”
Several Milla Nova employees are travelling all the way to Lviv – where the company’s factories are based – to work around the clock to create the essential items in addition to their regular work. Around 1500 garments have been manufactured so far, thanks to the company’s suppliers being able to swiftly provide the materials required.
Ms Kyrychuk told CNN that the company’s employees were all financially compensated for their efforts in February and that the company was in a position to take on staff who had been displaced from eastern Ukraine.
“My main goal as CEO is to protect people and ensure their tomorrow”, Ms Kyrychuk said.
Milla Nova has a workforce of 600, with 98 percent being women. After Russian forces invaded Ukraine, employees residing in Lviv were given the opportunity to relocate to Warsaw, Poland – where a temporary factory was established. As at this time, 70 Milla Nova staff have made their way to Poland, 450 have stayed in Lviv and the remainder have other plans to evacuate.
Staff located in Poland have been busy stitching together special yellow and blue Ukrainian themed dresses, which the company plans to sell to fundraise for Ukraine.
Ms Kyrychuk told CNN that her team made her “so proud” and that women could play such a significant part in the war.
