Bodycam footage from a police officer that came face-to-face with Donald Trump’s would-be assassin paints a terrifying picture.

New bodycam video from Trump assassination attempt shows police confronting Thomas Crooks on roof

New police bodycam video shows police confronting Donald Trump’s would-be assassin seconds before he started shooting.

Matthew Thomas Crooks, 20, opened fire at Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13 injuring the former US president’s ear.

New footage, obtained by Fox News Digital, shows the view of the incident from the eyes of a local police officer who climbed onto the roof of the building the shooter had been hiding on.

The Butler Township police officer can be seen being lifted up by a colleague and as he pushes himself up he takes a peek over the roof ledge of the AGR International building.

The officer quickly drops down to the ground and runs around the building presumably warning other authorities and bystanders nearby.

Seconds later Crooks opened fire at the rally, hitting Trump on the ear and killing one bystander. The gunman was then shot dead within seconds of his first shot.

Audio midway through the footage captures the chaos of the moment.

“He’s got glasses, long hair,” the officer says, describing Crooks’ backpack and the AR-15 rifle he was carrying.

Calls asking for an ambulance to the rally’s VIP tent can be heard over the officer’s radio.

The officer carrying the bodycam then asks to go back to the roof, where Crooks is seen lying dead with a pool of blood beside him.

Butler Township Police Lt. Matthew Pearson previously said the officer was unable to draw his gun at Crooks because his hands were pinned to the roof as he tried to raise himself.

The officer sprained an ankle falling to the ground after Crooks pointed the gun at him.

The ledge he climbed was about 3.7 metres high.

The footage also shows the officer appearing upset that other officers were not communicating on the same radio channels.

“Before you motherf*****s came up here, I popped my head up there like an idiot by myself dude,” he says, “Then he turned around and I f***** dropped and I started f***** I was calling out bro, f***** on top of the roof.”

“F***** we’re not on the same frequency?”
