Meghan Markle blames media for falling out with her father Thomas

The Duchess of Sussex squarely places the blame for the falling out between herself and her father on one thing, as she also revealed more about her mental health.

Meghan Markle shares how she felt coming into the royal family

Meghan Markle blames the media for the disintegration of her relationship with her father, she revealed in the latest instalment of the Sussexes’ Netflix docuseries.

She said things went south “when the media got involved”.

Ms Markle said she reached out to the Queen for advice on how to handle her father, and it was the Queen and the Prince of Wales’s advice that she write her father a letter.

But the receipt of the letter was signed in a signature that was not her father’s, Ms Markle said.

The subsequent publication of the letter in the Daily Mail was “horrendous” and the redactions painted a completely false picture of their relationship, Ms Markle said.

But attempts to get the palace to take the publication of the letter seriously prompted no action, with the couple revealing they were forced to get their own legal advice.

The media coverage of the lawsuit was negative, Prince Harry said, and this prompted the couple to get away to Canada for Christmas in 2019.

Footage of the time showed the couple playing with young Archie and showing him snow for the first time. Another clip showed Prince Harr y diving into the chilly waters off Vancouver, where they were staying.

“I came out refreshed and was like, 2020, what you got,” Harry says in a surprisingly American tone of voice.

MEGHAN’S SUICIDAL THOUGHTS ‘BROKE MY HEART’

As they told Oprah Winfrey in their interview with her last year, the Royal couple again spoke of Ms Markle‘s struggle with her mental health as the media turned against her and how she had contemplated suicide.

They illustrated the difference between reporting her caressing her “bump” and Princess Kate’s same gestures, and when the Royal wives wore similar off-the-shoulder dresses.

The Duchess said she began having suicidal thoughts “all of this will stop if I‘m not here” and shared her fragile mental state with her mother Doria Ragland.

“I remember her telling me that she wanted to take her own life and that really broke my heart because I knew that it was bad but to constantly be picked at by these vultures, just picking away at her spirit, that she would actually think of not wanting to be here, that’s not an easy one for a mum to hear,” Ms Ragland said.

“And I can’t protect her. H can’t protect her.”

Prince Harry said he felt “angry and ashamed” about how he dealt with his wife‘s crisis because he reverted to his ”training” as ”institutional Harry” rather than acting as ”husband Harry”.

Ms Markle repeated the same claims made to Winfrey she had been discouraged by Palace courtiers from seeking mental health treatment

The Prince said he had asked his father about the Palace reaching out to the media to back off Ms Markle.

“No one would have a private conversation with the editors saying ‘Enough!’,” he said.

“My dad said to me ‘Darling boy, you can’t take on the media...I said ”I fundamentally disagree.’”

The Duke of Sussex said he knew the Palace communications teams and editors had “constant briefings” and the trading of stories after his ”30 years of experience looking behind the curtain of how this system works”.
