The Israeli Defense Force says it has hit 200 Hezbollah targets in ravaged south Lebanon in the past 24 hours.

It also claims to have killed dozens of Hezbollah fighters as it targeted rocket launchers, command posts, fighting positions and Hezbollah cells.

One Israeli air strike destroyed a mosque in the war-torn south Lebanon, according to official Lebanese media.

“At around 3.45am (10.45am AEST) enemy aircraft carried out an airstrike targeting the old mosque in the centre of the village of Kfar Tibnit, completely destroying it,” the National News Agency reported.

Village mayor Fuad Yassin said the village, located about 8km from the border, had lost a beloved site that brought people together.

“It was a significant place because families used to gather in the square right next to it on special occasions” Yassin said, adding that the mosque was at least 100 years old.

A year of cross-border exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah over the Gaza war escalated into all-out conflict on September 23.

Israel’s intense bombardment campaign has killed more than 1260 people in Lebanon, according to official figures.

Lebanese officials have estimated more than one million people have been displaced.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Red Cross said its paramedics were hit by a strike on Sunday while attending the site of an earlier attack in the south.

In a statement, the organisation said that following an air strike on a house in Sirbin, Lebanese Red Cross ambulance teams were dispatched to the scene in coordination with UN peacekeepers.

“As the team was searching for casualties to rescue, the house was hit for a second time resulting in concussions to the volunteers and damage to the two ambulances,” the statement said.
