Will Robertson a danger in Far North’s newest cricket competition

He may well be the most underrated spin bowler in the region but batsmen should be keeping a close eye on Will Robertson ahead of the start of the Far North’s newest cricket competition.

HE MAY well be the most underrated spin bowler in the region but batsmen should be keeping a close eye on Will Robertson ahead of the start of the Far North’s newest cricket competition.

Robertson has been on a tear for Mulgrave in the Cricket Far North first-grade competition, ripping through line-ups on his way to a competition -best 25 scalps after 11 rounds.

He’s gone at just three runs an over with an average of 9.48, among the best in the competition, and is coming off an impressive 4-8 from six overs in Mulgrave’s big win against Barron last weekend.

Mulgrave teammate Jake Roach has watched Robertson bamboozle batsmen all season, and will call on the spinner when the Barrier Reef Big Bash starts on Friday night.

Roach is captaining Badgers, and it was that up-close look at how Robertson applies his craft which led to his decision to select the tweaker high up in the draft.

“He is the bowling the best I’ve seen, he’s really worked hard,” Roach said.

“He’s had it on a string.

“He’s getting the wickets, but he also pressures the batsmen, which helps us pace bowlers. I know a fair bit about him from playing with him. He’s handy with the bat too.”

The Badgers will take on Hurricanes in the first BRBB game at Griffiths Park on Friday night.
