Organisers of the iconic Mount Isa Mines Rodeo and Festival are encouraging any and all to grab their tickets now, especially if they’re looking to take advantage of some of the festival’s premium accommodation packages.
The event, one of the largest of it’s kind in the country, expanded last year to include the Indigenous Rodeo championships and this year will go even bigger for Mount Isa’s 100th anniversary, turning into a nine-day festival with some huge live entertainment scheduled.
Ida Rodeo Limited CEO Natalie Flecker said that this year’s event was on track to be absolutely massive, and that accommodation options were becoming increasingly scarce as it drew closer.
“We’ve had to order more of our glamping tents because we’ve actually sold out entirely of our first allocation of the tents, which is really exciting,” Ms Flecker said.
“It’s something that really adds to the experience of the event; being able to stay onsite, having a great time during the day and then being able to head to one of the tents, or your caravan or motor home.
“It really does swell into a little mini-city over the course of the rodeo.”
The glamping packages, are available in three and five night variations and are available to book online along with tickets to the event. Almost all of the local accommodation options are booked out for the August event.
Among the main attractions are Jessica Mauboy, who will perform alongside the Indigenous Rodeo Championships on August 10.
“It’s been a really great element to add to the event, we know that the Indigenous community have such a strong connection to land and to livestock, and we’ve been really lucky to see that unfold on the Thursday night of our rodeo,” Ms Flecker said.
“We’re really excited to see where it continues to grow to. At the moment we’re expecting that we’ll have at least double the number of competitors compared to last year and I think the cultural aspect of it that we’re delivering has become a really special part of what we’re providing.”
Alongside Ms Mauboy’s musical stylings, bands such as the Angels and Screaming Jets will also feature as part of the Rock Rodeo line-up throughout the festival.
“Dave Gleeson actually announced recently that he’s finishing up with the Angels which means that Mount Isa will be his second last performance with them, so I think that’s pretty cool for fans, too,” Ms Flecker said.
The Mount Isa Mines Rodeo will run from August 5 to August 13 and tickets are available online now.
