A woman aged in her 40s has died in Western Australia after contracting Covid-19, while the number of hospitalisations is also up.

One person has died overnight in Western Australia after contracting Covid-19, while the number of people in hospital has spiked.

“Sadly, WA Health has confirmed one person who tested positive for Covid-19 – a female in her 40s with other underlying health conditions – has passed away,” Premier Mark McGowan announced via social media on Monday.

WA recorded 2365 new cases overnight, with 36 people now in hospital — and increase of 10 from the previous day — but none are in intensive care.

It brings the total number of active cases to 13,486.

More than 1200 people were diagnosed via a PCR test, while more than 1100 came from positive rapid antigen tests.

WA’s third dose vaccination rate for people aged over 16 now sits at 66 per cent.

Breakdown of cases:

  • Metropolitan — 12,491 active, including 2151 new;
  • Goldfields — 140 active, including 20 new;
  • Great Southern — 29 active, including seven new;
  • Kimberley — eight active, including one new;
  • Mid West — 43 active, including nine new;
  • Pilbara — 112 active including 13 new;
  • South West — 223 active, including 33 new; and
  • Wheatbelt — 95 active, including 24 new.

WA’s hard border came down last Thursday, with thousands of people already flocking to the state.
