Perth pub slammed for 'blatant' Covid breaches

Two men have been charged with multiple offences over an alleged New Year’s Eve event in Perth.

It is alleged that at 11.30pm on December 31, police officers spotted a “significant number” of people inside The George during Covid-19 restrictions that banned such activity.

“It will be alleged that senior staff in attendance at The George were not ensuring the relevant Covid restrictions were being adhered to by patrons,” police said in a statement on Friday.

“The venue was subsequently closed and investigations commenced.”

A 41-year-old man from Joondanna, who is the licensee/approved manager of the venue, has now been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a direction.

A 25-year-old man from Nickol, who was the event’s promoter, has also been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a direction.

The corporate entity trading as The George was further charged with two counts of failing to comply with a direction.

The matter will go before the Perth Magistrates Court on January 12.

“Inquiries into this matter are ongoing and further charges may follow,” police said.
