Disgraced former North Melbourne footballer Tarryn Thomas has no hope of rejoining the league while facing allegations of harassing his former girlfriend.

It comes after the Herald Sun revealed that Thomas was charged by police on Tuesday after a search warrant was executed at an Ormond property.

“Police have charged a 24-year-old Ormond man in relation to reports of alleged harassing phone calls,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

“The man was arrested and charged with use telecommunications service to harass and breaching a court order.”

Thomas was bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on November 21.

AFL spokesman Jay Allen confirmed the league were aware of the charges.

He said Thomas will not be able to join any club, at any level until the determination of the charges.

“The AFL reiterates that under the sanctions previously imposed on Mr Thomas by the AFL, he currently cannot train or play at any level of Australian Football without the approval of the AFL including once his 18-match suspension expires,” Mr Allen said.

“Please note that the AFL will specifically not permit Mr Thomas to join the list of any AFL club pending the hearing and determination of the charges that have now been brought against him and subject to the outcome of those proceedings.

“More broadly, it is the AFL’s intent that Mr Thomas will not be approved to play at any level of Australian Football pending the hearing and determination of the charges that have now been brought against him and subject to the outcome of those proceedings.”

Mr Allen said the league will continue to monitor the police proceedings.

“The AFL cannot and will not make any comment in relation to those new charges while the police investigation is ongoing,” he said.

The Herald Sun revealed this month Thomas was under police investigation following accusations he called his former girlfriend multiple times during the day and night.

It’s believed the alleged calls were made after Thomas was cut by the Kangaroos and handed an 18-match suspension by the AFL after conduct breaches.

This included allegedly threatening the same woman on social media.

The shocking messages were revealed by the Herald Sun in February.

“And for them girls I abuse I would do again,” Thomas wrote to the woman.

“After what they did to me if you do me wrong I will let you have it.”

Last year, Thomas escaped conviction after threatening to share an explicit video of another ex-partner.

The footballer had been arguing with the woman over Instagram in July 2022 when she made a comment about his mother which he took offence to.

Thomas then told her he had distributed the video when he had not.

He was initially charged with threatening to distribute an intimate image but it was downgraded to using a carriage service to harass.

Thomas was ordered to pay $1000 to charity.

At the time, the victim told the Herald Sun she was disappointed with the outcome.

“It’s exactly what I expected to happen all along, I wasn’t shocked by it at all,” she said.

“I don’t think a fine to charity for threatening and abusing women is a punishment.”
