A former AFL player has fallen victim to the state’s crime wave after his car was smashed into and raided on Saturday.

Koby Stevens, who played 91 games for St Kilda, the Western Bulldogs and West Coast, is pleading for public assistance after priceless camera gear and footage were stolen.

Stevens loaded his camera gear into his car on Loch St in St Kilda, only to find his window completely smashed and his gear gone when he returned.

The three-club player, whose career was cut short due to repeated concussion-related symptoms, has been shooting a film on elite athletes and head injuries across the globe.

Stevens says much of that footage, which features film star Eric Bana is now gone after Saturday’s brazen theft.

“Well this is living in St Kilda for you, I’ve just loaded my car up with 40 terabytes of footage on it from all over the world and someone has literally smashed through my windows and stolen it,” he said.

“F---en hell. Someone wouldn’t even know what they have.

“The hard drive never leaves the house but the day I take it away to edit footage over the weekend is when this happened. Car was locked obviously.”

Stevens said the footage would be “a million dollars’ worth” as it includes several well-known sports stars and scientists.

The film – Thrive – will document the severe impacts of concussion in sports and discusses how those impacted are continuing to heal.

The 34-year-old said it was “distressing” as the personal content has not been made public yet.

He is urging anyone with information to get in touch or contact police.

“(It) is obviously extremely important and sensitive and hasn’t been put out to the public yet because we are still in production,” he added.

“It’s pretty distressing (that) someone has this now.”

Stevens played 63 games for the Bulldogs, 17 for St Kilda and 11 for the Eagles before he announced his retirement in 2018 at age 27.

He suffered repeated concussions throughout his career and clashed heads with Mitch Robinson in his last year of footy.

Police say Stevens’ car was raided between 8pm on Friday night and 8am on Saturday morning.

“No arrests have been made at this stage and the investigation is ongoing,” a statement read.
