Beechworth Seconday College student’s fingers severed in horror incident
A Beechworth Secondary College student was flown to hospital after he partially severed several fingers while using a guillotine in class on Friday.
A 16-year-old schoolboy from Beechworth partially severed several of his fingers in a metal working guillotine on Friday, while a primary school student in the Macedon Ranges was bitten by a snake.
The boy from Beechworth Secondary College was attended by paramedics about 2.40pm and was flown to The Alfred in a stable condition.
“Paramedics are on scene assessing one person for upper body injuries,” an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.
“There are no further details at this stage.”
Students at the school study a range of practical subjects, including woodworking and metalwork.
A Department of Education spokesman said: “There was an accident at Beechworth Secondary College on Friday afternoon, resulting in a student being injured.”
“The school acted quickly and effectively to ensure prompt medical attention was provided.”
In another distressing incident, ambulance officers were called to Alice Miller School in Romsey around 2.10pm after reports a young girl was bitten by a snake.
The primary-school aged girl was taken by road to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
