Ange Postecoglou has four million reasons to smile, regardless whichever direction his future takes as Tottenham Hotspur manager.
Postecoglou, 59, brilliantly steered Spurs to the Europa League title in Spain on Thursday, a victory which netted the former South Melbourne captain a $4.13m bonus, The Daily Telegraph in London reported.
The English Premier League club also collected $22m in prizemoney for lifting its first European trophy in 41 years and first silverware of any type for 17 years.
When Postecoglou was appointed Tottenham manager in June 2023 it was announced he had signed a four-year contract with the club.
He is the first Australian to manage a team in the EPL and his annual salary at Spurs is reportedly around $10m.
An estimated 150,000 Tottenham fans raucously saluted their heroes during an open-top bus parade through north London on Saturday.
It was Tottenham’s first trophy parade since it won its last FA Cup in 1991.
Postecoglou’s side sits a lowly 17th on the EPL table, one place above the relegation zone, as it faces its worst league finish since 1976-77.
But Graham Roberts – a member of the Tottenham team that won the 1984 UEFA Cup – backed his old club to chase more silverware now the trophy curse was over.

“This will give them belief now. All that pressure that was there, that’s gone,” Roberts said.
“We have to strengthen our squad, but I think we have a great bunch of boys.
“They love Ange, they went around him, they cuddled him, they wanted him in the photos. The team spirit is there.
“We’ll get more now, the rest will come. Wednesday was one of the greatest nights. I had tears in my eyes. The fans were magnificent. They deserve it.”
Postecoglou treated supporters to a powerful speech outside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the parade and didn’t miss his critics.
“I told them and they laughed. I told them and they didn’t believe,” he said.
“And I’ll tell you something, I’ll leave you with this.
“All the best television series, season three is better than season two.”
Given the club’s domestic disaster, there’s talk Postecoglou could still be cut loose by chairman Daniel Levy.
However, the European triumph should change that for various reasons.
Club icon Robbie Keane, who helped Spurs win their previous title with the League Cup 17 years ago, believes stability is key going forward.
“It’s an unbelievable moment for Spurs, Daniel Levy and the manager,” Keane said.
“People asked me today, ‘Do you think the manager will go?’ But how can you get rid of a manager who just won a European Cup?
“You need stability at the club and you’re not going to get that if you keep changing every couple of years. They need to build on this and build on momentum now.”
Tottenham plays its last game of the EPL season at home against Brighton on Monday (1am AEST).
