A Grovedale family have woken up on Christmas morning with presents under the tree but no car in the driveway.
Police are investigating an aggravated burglary and car theft that happened on Jokia Ridge about 5.40am on Wednesday, December 25.
Two men allegedly entered through the front door of the property and stole the keys to a brand new, black Isuzu MUX parked out the front before fleeing in the vehicle.
No one was injured in the process.
The car owner, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was “pretty flat” to lose his SUV on what should have been a morning filled with joy.
“We’ve got five kids … we were going to pile in [to the car] and get out for the afternoon but I don’t know now.”
He said he heard a noise and “thought nothing of it” until seeing the flashlight from one of the alleged offenders’ phone at the front of the hallway.
“I heard my car unlock and thought it was my partner’s daughter going out to get toys but a couple of seconds later it started up.”
“I got up straight away and watched them burn off.”
The man said there had been a build-up of suspicious activity.
”We’ve had people in the yard before, and a few weeks ago there were people scoping out houses,” he said.
