The M1 was brought to a near standstill on Thursday evening when a crash involving a truck and two other vehicles forced the closure of several lanes.

Northbound traffic backed up for miles behind the incident, which took place near the Helensvale South exit at Gaven at 4.46pm.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the driver of the truck, a man in his fifties, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Three people from the other two vehicles involved in the crash – two men and a woman, all in their thirties, were assessed by paramedics at the scene but did not need treatment or transport to hospital.
