A major street has been closed and a motorcyclist is fighting for his life in hospital after a crash in Southport.
A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokesman said paramedics were called to Cotlew St, Southport at 11.15am on Wednesday following a collision between a car and motorbike.
He said the motorbike rider had been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police have closed Cotlew Street in both directions near Coolibah St.
The forensic crash unit is on scene. Officers are inspecting a black Mercedes sedan, which has damage to the front left-hand side of the car.
In front of the vehicle lies a pillow and a motorcycle helmet.
Five metres away, a crumbled dirt bike is resting in the middle of the footpath.
The crash happened just metres from Sarah Talbot’s front door.
“I didn’t see it but definitely heard it – just horrible,” Miss Talbot said.
“This is a dangerous intersection, like this would be the third (crash) this year.”
Miss Talbot said neighbours rushed to the rider’s aid in the seconds after the crash.
“People (were) bringing water and just trying to do something, anything.”
