SMOKE over the southern Gold Coast this morning was due to a controlled burn at Bonogin.

The controlled burn at the Carrington Road Reserve is expected to continue until Wednesday.

It comes as fire crews begin to brace themselves for the coming summer fire season with more controlled burns expected in the Gold Coast Hinterland during coming weeks.

A Bonogin Valley Rural Fire Brigade spokesman said that residents should keep their doors and windows closed, and medications for any respiratory conditions close by.

Motorists should also take care and drive to conditions.
