Significant delays after serious police incident shuts down Gold Coast M1 northbound
POLICE have reopened some lanes on the M1 northbound following a serious police incident on the Gold Coast earlier this evening.

UPDATE 9pm: Some lanes on the M1 are open following the death of a pedestrian at Ormeau this evening, allowing traffic to trickle through.
Traffic is still congested and delays will continue for some time.

EARLIER:
ALL FOUR lanes northbound on the M1 are shut this evening following the death of a pedestrian.
It is understood police attended the Ormeau area at Exit 49 around 6.10pm and closed all four lanes after a traffic incident.
Motorists were let through one car at a time via Exit 49 and back onto the highway.
There are significant delays.
Witnesses reported seeing a person fall from the overpass and hit by multiple vehicles.
One of the drivers are being consoled by police on the side of the road.
UPDATE: The highway will be closed for AT LEAST a few hours so please avoid the area.

Motorists are being urged to take alternative routes as it is expected the lanes will not reopen for a number of hours.
