M1 gridlock after multi-car crash at Upper Coomera leaves four lanes blocked

Traffic was backed up for kilometres on the Gold Coast after a multi-car crash on the M1 left four lanes blocked.

UPDATE: The northbound lanes on the M1 have been cleared.

One person was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with minor injuries.

Tow trucks removed the cars off the road.

Traffic is still slow.

EARLIER: CRITICAL care paramedics are on scene after a multi-car crash on the M1.

Paramedics were called to Exit 54 at Upper Coomera to reports of a multi-vehicle crash at 2.50pm.

Four units are in attendance, including critical care paramedics and the High Acuity Response Team.

It is not known if anyone is injured.

It is understood the crash involved four cars, with one woman reporting she was trapped inside her car.

All four lanes are blocked to remove those involved safely.

TRAFFIC AT A CRAWL AFTER SPLENDOUR

The crash is causing a backlog of traffic in the northbound lanes, with delays at least 6km long and expected to increase.

A police spokeswoman said officers hoped to have the incident cleared as soon as possible.
