ONE of the Gold Coast’s busiest intersections is about to be ripped up as part of a long-awaited $10.7m upgrade.
Shovels will hit the ground up the Harbour Town intersection in September as part of a congestion-busting project co-funded by the state and federal governments.
New right-turn lanes and longer right-turn lanes will be created at the intersection, which connects Brisbane Road and Gold Coast Highway, Oxley Drive and Hope Island Road and Olsen Avenue & Labrador-Carrara Road.

Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the upgrade would tackle congestion and improve safety for thousands of drivers.
“Across the globe, economies including Queensland’s have felt the brunt of COVID-19 but because we’re managing those health impacts, we are able to continue rolling out a record $23 billion pipeline of transport and road upgrades to create jobs throughout Queensland and on the Coast,” he said.
The project will create 34 construction jobs.
“When works are complete, new pedestrian fences will provide greater safety for the general public and additional cycle lanes will connect to local roads through the intersection,” Fadden MP Stuart Robert said.
“The local community will receive a project flyer in the coming days and further community consultation will be undertaken as the project progresses.”
