THERE was traffic chaos in the northern section of the M1 this evening after a truck went up in flames and a police incident closed two lanes.

Police were called to a fatal traffic crash at Pimpama, just after the Coomera Exit, at 5.10pm.

They closed two of three northbound lanes, which are expected to remain closed for some time.

Drivers heading northbound on the M1 were facing delays of up to 40 minutes as a result, with traffic at a crawl through the area.

Earlier, a truck went on fire in the southbound lanes at Coomera, near Dreamworld, about 3.50pm.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said their crews have now left the scene in the hands of traffic management crews and a tow truck.

A man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition after suffering from smoke inhalation and an arm burn.
