Gold Coast traffic: Accidents plague roads during morning commute

It’s been a horror morning on the roads with a number of accidents causing headaches for motorists. A car was destroyed by a major crash at Ashmore while traffic was at a standstill at M1 earlier.

It’s been a horror morning on the roads with a number of accidents causing headaches for motorists.

Emergency services were at the scene of a major crash at Ashmore where a man was stuck in a vehicle which hit a pole on the corner of Benowa Road and Heeb Street at 7.55am.

The vehicle crumpled on impact, with fire crews forced to cut the driver from the vehicle using heavy duty tools.

He was pulled from the vehicle about 8.25am.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said he was injured but they are unsure of what the injuries are exactly at this stage.

The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Meanwhile traffic was at a crawl on the M1 at 8.20am as emergency services work to clear a two-car crash near the Helensvale North on ramp.

The accident happened just before 8am in the southbound lanes.

A number of people were being assessed by paramedics at the scene.

The motorway resembled a car park as far back as Coomera, with heavy delays for the morning commute.

One lane of the M1 was closed as crews remained at the scene.

An earlier crash on Smith St also caused delays for motorists shortly before 6am.
