Elderly pedestrian hit by car at Burleigh Heads still fighting for life

AN elderly man who was hit by a car in Burleigh Heads last night is fighting for his life in hospital.

AN ELDERLY man is fighting for his life after he was hit by a car on the Gold Coast.

Police say the 84-year-old man walked in front of a car exiting a car park onto the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh Heads around 6.15pm when he was hit.

A large group of people including a paramedic on their way to work rushed to the man’s aid.

He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital where he is now fighting for life.

District Duty Office Senior Sergeant Neil Parker said it was unknown if the man had lost balance and fallen backwards in the incident.

Southbound lanes of the Gold Coast Highway through Burleigh Heads were closed and traffic was being diverted.

Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.

Police believe just after 6pm the 84-year-old male was struck by a vehicle exiting the carpark near Burleigh Heads Surf Club.

A large group of people including a paramedic on their way to work rushed to the man’s aid.
