A CAR has caught alight along the M1 on the Gold Coast, leading to delays along the busy motorway.

At 6.17pm, emergency services reported multiple calls for the car on fire at Exit 67 at Mudgeeraba, which was believed to be due to a mechanical fault.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames before 6.45pm using a hose.

The northbound lanes on the highway are clogged for up to 2km.

The driver managed to get out of the car and did not require a medical assessment.

Earlier, a car and bike rider collided at Glen Ferry Drive at Robina at 5.15pm.

The bike rider, in his 40s, was left with broken wrists and lacerations.

It’s believed he was thrown from the bike.
