Car crashes into Labrador shop front leaving trail of destruction

A MAN was lucky to escape serious injury after suffering a medical condition behind the wheel of his car smashing into a shop front at Labrador.

A MAN was lucky to escape serious injury after suffering a medical condition behind the wheel of his car and smashing into a shop front at Labrador.

The driver was travelling north along Gold Coast Highway just before 1pm when he became unwell and lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle careered out of control down a footpath taking out a light pole and cement fixture before flying over stairs and crashing through the entrance of the Aussie Homeloans store on Babbidge Street.

Luckily nobody was inside the store at the time with witnesses predicting the vehicle was travelling at about 80km/h.

The driver was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with facial injuries.

Babbidge St is closed to traffic while the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
