Car catches fire on M1 near Chinderah, blaze spreads to nearby bushland
There were dramatic scenes on the M1 today when a car fire spread into nearby bushland.

THERE were dramatic scenes on the M1 this afternoon after a car fire spread to nearby bushland in Chinderah.
Emergency services were called to the scene just south of the Pacific Motorway and Tweed Valley Way intersection around 1.49pm Queensland time.
Firefighters arrived to find the car and bush well alight and called for assistance from the Rural Fire Service.

Thick smoke spread across the southbound lanes of the M1, forcing their closure for a period of time. Both lanes are now reopened.
The car fire was quickly extinguished, leaving crews battling the grass fire until around 3pm.
No one is believed to have been injured in the blaze.
