70 more car spaces for Ormeau station while Coomera station suffers

A SECOND northern Gold Coast suburb is crying out for extra car parks, with residents saying they are having to leave hours earlier to beat tradies using the spaces in the morning.

COOMERA commuters are being forced to drive to Helensvale or Ormeau to park and ride with the Foxwell Rd station at capacity by 7.30 most mornings.

Residents claim tradies from the neighbouring Coomera Town Centre development are parking at the already busy station car park.

Coomera resident Ashley Collins catches the train for university and said it was “impossible” to get a park.

“By 7.30am, sometimes earlier, there’s no parking … and by 9am there’s nothing, anywhere,” she said.

“I’ve seen tradesmen parking at the train station and taking up several spaces.

“I now have to leave earlier, so I can get a parking spot, otherwise I have to travel to a different station.”

Area councillor Cameron Caldwell said it was “critical” the needs of Coomera’s growing population was serviced by the State Government.

“This includes better parking and importantly more stations, which I am pushing for,” he said.

The frustrations of Coomera residents come as division one councillor Donna Gates has secured 70 new parks for Ormeau station.

“I asked council officers to liaise with the State Government, with a view to add additional car parks to cater for growing demand,” she said.

“It makes no sense to encourage residents to use public transport, without providing the necessary carparking adjacent.”

She said the additional spaces would be delivered by the State Government early next year.
