A man has been charged with unlawful possession of suspected stolen property after police found a set of WWII medals during a house search.
The four medals were awarded posthumously to soldier Clarence James Jones who died as a prisoner of war.
The medals had been passed down as a family heirloom to his grandson, Robert MacCallum, but they were allegedly lost several years ago.
Police officers found the medals during a property search in Strathpine.
A 22-year-old Kippa Ring man is due to reappear in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on January 13.
Pictures of the medals were released to the public last week as police tried to track down the rightful owner of Clarence James Jones’s medals, and were inundated with reports that lead them to Clarence’s family.
Mr MacCallum and his cousin Kathleen attended Petrie police station to thank officers for finding and returning the medals.
