Police are continuing their search for two prisoners who broke out of a Townsville jail on Christmas Day, with Corrective Services unable to comment on their investigation.
Officers have been searching for the two women, Kristy Lisa Barnes and Pearl Elizabeth May O’Neill, after the pair absconded from the Townsville Correctional Centre on December 25.

It is understood the pair cut a fence with an implement before making their escape – and that an investigation into how the prisoners were able to obtain the instrument was to be conducted.

O’Neill is understood to be pregnant and on remand, while Barnes is reportedly serving a year and four month sentence for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

When asked for comment as to the progress of the investigation into how the pair were able to abscond, a Queensland Corrective Services spokeswoman said she was unable to comment.

“As it will be subject to police investigation and potential criminal charges, we wouldn’t comment on progress,” the spokeswoman said.
