Townsville Police reveal reason for emergency declaration, armed raid in West End
A man has had his charges mentioned in court following an emergency declaration and dramatic armed raid in Townsville last week.

A man allegedly involved in a dramatic police raid of a West End home last week has had his matters mentioned in court.
The 32-year-old was arrested on Nix Street Friday after police activated an emergency declaration for four hours.
Defence lawyer Jamie Scuderi represented the man in Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday morning, with the man’s appearance excused.
The man faces four charges total including two counts of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and one count each of serious assault and possessing a weapon.
Ms Scuderi asked for the man’s matters to be adjourned to line up with his co-offender to September 24.
Magistrate Ken Taylor remanded the man in custody and adjourned the matters to Townsville Court.
No application for bail was made.

Police revealed the reason for an emergency declaration and dramatic armed raid in Townsville on Friday.
Queensland Police Service said that the emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) and raid involving armed officers in the West End was in relation to an alleged serious assault at an address in Currajong the previous day.
“Police were called after 2am (on Thursday) to reports of a disturbance (in Currajong), involving a group of people who are known to each other,” a QPS spokeswoman said.
“A 31-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken hospital for treatment.
The spokeswoman said police had made two arrests following reports of the serious assault.
She said a 35-year-old man was arrested on Thursday and charged him with “acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm”.
That individual has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to re-appear before Townsville Magistrates Court on September 24.
The spokeswoman confirmed that a 32-year-old man was arrested at an address in Nix Street after the emergency declaration under the PSPA on Friday.
“He has been charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm,” she said.
“He has been remanded in custody and is expected to re-appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court on July 15.”
News Corp has obtained photos of the raid showing two women surrendering to armed officers.
The women have not been charged with any offences and are not accused of any wrongdoing.
