Hyde Park pawn shop ram raid

POLICE have arrested and charged two people allegedly behind a destructive ram raid at a Townsville pawn shop last month.

On June 15, police allege three males ploughed an allegedly stolen car through the glass front doors of Hyde Park pawn shop, Pawn Central.

Police have CCTV footage of the incident which will allege the males broken into jewellery cabinets, pocketed necklaces and stole compound bows, as well as a 2022 KTM motorcycle.

The footage shows the alleged males dressed in hoodies and face coverings rummaging through the store.

Owner Rick Williams said he was not insured, and had to board up the front of his store while he waited for the doors to be replaced.

Mr Williams said nothing like this had ever happened to his business before.

Police will allege the group then used a crowbar to break into Autobarn at Domain Central.

They allegedly stole some electronics and left the area.

Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch have been investigating both incidents and called on the public to help with CCTV or dashcam footage.

A 17-year-old Heatley boy and a 36-year-old South Townsville man have since been charged with one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing dangerous drugs.

The South Townsville man was also charged with possessing drug utensils, failing to take reasonable precaution with a syringe, possessing property suspected of being used in connection of a crime and possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of a drug offence.

Unfortunately, police have not recovered any of the stolen items, including none of the weapons.

The teenager faced Townsville Children’s Court last week and has been remanded in custody.

The man also faced court last week and was remanded in custody to reappear at Townsville Magistrates Court on July 28.

Police are still investigating the involvement of the third person.
