Townsville police have left a young adult with egg on his face after slapping him with a hooning charge, confiscating his car and asking him what his mother would think of his alleged poor behaviour.

“What do you reckon mum’s saying right now?” the Townsville Highway Patrol officer asks the 22-year-old Wulguru man in the wake of an alleged hooning incident in Bohle on June 12.

Police body-worn camera footage does not include the man’s response.

Police allege that around 8pm, the man performed burn outs at the intersection of Enterprise Street and Commercial Ave.

“Police confiscated the vehicle’s registration plates for 90 days and charged the man with one count of wilfully making unnecessary noise or smoke,” a Queensland Police Service statement said.

He is scheduled to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on July 9.

In addition, the passenger in the vehicle, a 21-year-old Mount Louisa woman, was handed a stiff $645 fine for “participating in a hooning group activity”.

Three other people were issued fines of $645 for spectating in a “hooning group activity” without reasonable excuse.
