Police are investigating a nasty assault and robbery of a 34-year-old man who was set upon by an armed group of people while walking in the city.

Police are investigating a nasty assault and robbery of a 34-year-old man who was set upon by an armed group of people while walking in the city.
Initial investigations indicate the 34-year-old pedestrian was approached by a group of people armed with tools who assaulted him and stole his backpack on Ingham Rd near the Townsville CBD at 11.20pm on Thursday.
Police said the group left the scene in a dark coloured hatchback.
The 34-year-old man suffered minored injuries and was treated on scene by paramedics.
Investigations remain ongoing, anyone with information is asked to contact police.
