The couple has spent the last five years on the island with their son and started the business to “do something positive” for the community.

Originally developed by UBCO in New Zealand as a “farm bike”, the Capps are the first to provide UBCO bikes for hire in Australia.

Without a noisy engine, the bikes have been historically suited for rounding up livestock “and now they’re great for Koala spotting,” Mr Capp said.

With many Magnetic Island community groups pushing towards cleaner, greener energy, Mr Capp wants visitors to know that “electric is here, it’s sustainable and you can do it right now.”

The bikes are available for full-day hire or Magnetic Island Roaming also offers private tours out to West Point to watch the sunset from one of the most remote spots on the island.

The bike’s batteries can last up to 120km, when riding on the flat, and are dual drive with a motor in the front and the rear making them ideal for mud or sand.

Mrs Capp said even those who are new to riding bikes, like herself, will enjoy it.

You also don’t need a motorbike licence in Queensland to drive them.

“Hop off the ferry, walk over, get a coffee from Scally’s and go for a burn,” Mr Capp said.

“It’s a fun adventure day.”

Bikes can be hired between 8am and 5pm at magneticislandroaming.com.au.
