A development in Oonoonba to assist serving and transitioning defence servicemen, women and their families has won Master Builders’ North Queensland project of the year.

Woollam Constructions delivered The Oasis Veteran Hub, partnering with QBuild.

The project was for the Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, facilitated by The Oasis Townsville, a not-for-profit organisation.

Comprising seven buildings, the hub offers veterans and their families access to assistance from government health services, ex-service organisations and community groups.

The main administration building underwent a refurbishment from its defunct foundations.

The site has four huts, used as offices and spaces for lease for functions and community classes, a cafe and storage shed.

Judges were impressed with the subtle military architecture and the fact that local trades were used throughout the build.

Master Builders North Queensland Regional Manager Emma Peters congratulated winners across the 35 categories.

“From modern health and sporting facilities, retail and tourism amenities to stunning renovations and beautiful home builds, this year’s entries were inspirational,” she said.
