A North West Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman confirmed yesterday’s death in the most recent update of Covid cases for the area.

“North West Hospital and Health Service is saddened to confirm the first Covid-related death in the North West following the death of a man in his 60s,” The spokeswoman said.

“North West Hospital and Health Service extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends and community.”

The region reported no additional Covid cases in the 24 hours prior to 7pm on February 21, keeping the overall total of cases that have been treated by the North West Hospital and Health Service at 1,902.

“To date, there have been close to 5000 Covid-19-related deaths in Australia,” The spokeswoman said.

“The likelihood of further deaths can be reduced by our community members ensuring each is up to date with their Covid-19 vaccinations including a booster shot.”

Booster and vaccinations are currently available at all North West Hospital and Health Service facilities.

The vaccination centre at the Mount Isa Civic Centre in West Street will be in operation from 9am to 6pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

On Thursday, the clinic will be open between 1pm and 8pm.

“The Buchanan Park drive-through Covid-19 testing clinic is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am until 12pm,” The spokeswoman said.

“Community members should remain in their car and follow the direction of staff members who are there to provide assistance.”
