Man arrested at Ribs and Rumps

A RESTAURANT employee got the surprise of their life when they arrived at work to find a man who had been locked inside overnight and allegedly got drunk on their alcohol.

About 7.35am on Monday, a staff member at Ribs and Rumps on Palmer St called emergency services when they arrived at work to find a man inside.

It’s understood the man was locked inside the South Townsville establishment overnight and allegedly got drunk on the alcohol behind the bar.

The Bulletin arrived at the restaurant to find the drunk man still inside with staff who were on the phone.

The man, who was sat by the bar, invited the Bulletin into the restaurant saying “come on in, mate”.

It is unclear what the man’s connection with the establishment is, and how he was locked inside.

Police arrived at the restaurant about 8am and spoke with the man and staff.

The officers spoke with the man for about 15 minutes before he emerged from the restaurant, stumbling around.

The man was asked to leave to area, and offered a lift home, but he appeared to become difficult and engage in a verbal altercation.

He was walked to the police car and arrested by the two police officers.
