Passenger numbers through Townsville, Mount Isa, Longreach and Gold Coast airports have spiked to record numbers.
The four Queensland Airports Limited terminals saw 8.1m passengers in 2023, up 10 per cent on the previous 12 months.
The latest data showed Townsville Airport had its busiest year in a decade - 1.6m travellers - just 26,000 fewer than 2012.
December 20 had the most traffic as 6100 passengers travelled through Townsville Airport.
Queensland Airports Limited chief executive Amelia Evans said storms and cyclone season did not dampen travel.
“Despite impacts from the storms in the South East and Cyclone Jasper in North Queensland, both Gold Coast Airport and Townsville Airport recorded some very busy travel days either side of Christmas,” she said.
“Figures (show) flights were fuller than pre-pandemic, particularly in and out of Gold Coast Airport, where flights were on average 86 per cent full.”
Mount Isa Airport had 228,000 passengers in 2023 – its fourth busiest year on record - while Longreach Airport saw 33,000 passengers, remaining steady on the 2022 numbers.
The Gold Coast to Sydney flights remain the busiest route, and the Gold Coast Airport accounted for 6.2m of the 8.1m annual passengers; up 10 per cent on 2022.
In 2023 Bonza began the Gold Coast, Toowoomba Wellcamp and the Sunshine Coast, to and from Townsville.
On Tuesday, the budget airline announced the Townsville to Rockhampton flights would cease after March 29 because of a lack of passengers.
