Townsville Police Service have honoured two police dogs with the Queensland Police Canine Service Medallion.
The Medal recognises police dogs for their five years of service and for playing a critical role in keeping the region safe.
Retired PD Mace received the award after working as a general-purpose dog for eight and a half years alongside handler Sergeant Nathan Hester.
The second medal was awarded to retired PD Cannon, who spent seven years working with handler Senior Constable Brett Tome.
The dogs lead successful careers with Townsville Police Service, both going on to live with their handlers into retirement.
Townsville Chief Superintendent Graeme Paine said he can’t thank the dogs enough for their work.
“During their careers, Mace and Cannon and their handlers spent every day working in partnership and supporting frontline police to keep the people of Townsville safe,” Mr Paine said.
“I’d like to thank them for their service and know they are enjoying a quieter life with their families.”
During his years of service, Mace successfully found a murder suspect and assisted in locating more than one hundred offenders and missing people.
Cannon was able to find two prison escapees.
