Townsville is set for a jam-packed New Year’s Eve with events — and fireworks — across the region for the whole family to enjoy.
New Year’s Eve on The Ville Lawns
The Ville will be joined by Grammy-nominated Meduza and dance music trailblazer Acraze for one of the region’s biggest New Year’s parties.
Marketing and events co-ordinator Kimberley Wilkinson said The Ville hosted one of the most popular New Year’s celebrations.
“We’re really excited, it will be the biggest event that we’ve ever had here at The Ville for New Year’s Eve,” Ms Wilkinson said.
And it wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve without fireworks, short range displays will take place between 10pm and midnight.
Ticket sales will close at 4pm on Tuesday December 31, limited tickets will be available at the venue.
Townsville Fire v Bendigo Spirit
It will be a Fire Fiesta on and off the court when the Townsville Fire take on the Bendigo Spirit in the traditional New Year’s Eve game at the Fire Pit this Tuesday night.
Townsville Fire general manager Sam Pascoe said that the fun would start with pre-game entertainment before the vital clash on the boards with the Fire planning to ruin the New Year celebrations of their southern rivals.
“New Year’s Eve is generally our biggest home game of the regular season. We’re looking forward to that and again we are kick starting it with the Fire Fiesta,” she said.
“But it’s bigger this year, we’ve got live music, we’ve got a band playing, all the food trucks and kids activities.
“Then come in watch the Fire play against Bendigo, where we’re hoping to get the win.
“It allows lots of time to go along to The Strand afterwards and watch the fireworks and see in the New Year. So the game really offers a great start to your New Year’s Eve celebrations.”
Pascoe said the annual New Year’s Eve game had become a Fire tradition.
“Everyone looks forward to it every year, from the players to our fans. We’re really excited that we’re able to bring it back and keep that on our schedule for our fans.
“So we’re really hoping for a sellout.”
Pascoe said the two teams had built up a fierce rivalry over many seasons.
“It got really close against Bendigo in our last game. We only lost by two points,” she said.
“We know what we need to do, and we’re very hopeful that we can get that win on our home court.”
She is expecting a wall of orange at the home game.
“Definitely a wall of orange. It’s something that our coaching staff and our players always comment on just how much they can feel the crowd behind them, and how much that does help them get that win.”

New Year’s Eve at The Strand, Riverway and Magnetic Island
Celebrations will also take place at The Strand, with more than a dozen food trucks and amusements open from 4pm until midnight.
The celebration will also feature entertainers, musicians, and family friendly fireworks.
But the main event will take place at midnight on Tuesday the 31st, with a grand new year’s fireworks display set to light up the sky.
Acting mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said locals could enjoy fireworks from all three locations.
“Firework shows will be visible from Riverway and The Strand at 8pm on New Year’s Eve, and The Strand and Magnetic Island at just before midnight on Tuesday the 31st of December,” Ms Greaney said.
Riverway Precinct in Thuringowa Central will include food trucks and a feature film.
Magnetic Island residents can also enjoy a midnight fireworks display at Nelly Bay.
New Year’s Eve Masked Ball
If you’re looking for something more glamorous this New Year’s, Townsville Brewing Co’s Masked Ball may be perfect for you.
Guests are encouraged to dress to impress and wear a mask to suit their mood.
The event will take place in The Banquet Centre at Townsville Brewing Co, and will feature music by the Katie Richards Band starting at 7pm.
Tickets can be purchased online.
