Mount Isa fire rescue

Footage shows the moment police officers rushed to rescue animals from properties near a massive industrial fire that broke out in Mount Isa last week.

The blaze tore through a car yard on Duchess Road, Healy at around 5.30pm last Thursday and had the potential to spread to nearby properties.

Fire crews raced to control the inferno, while two local police constables were tasked with getting residents to safety.

During the evacuation, the officers stumbled upon two dogs at a property close to the fire.

Without missing a beat, they moved into action, carrying the animals to safety just as the fire closed in.

The dogs were later safely reunited with their relieved owners, but despite the rapid response, the business where the fire started suffered major damage.

Police are still investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined.

Authorities are calling for anyone with information or footage of the fire to contact Mount Isa police.

It comes as, in the past 14 days, Mount Isa police have been deployed to assist their colleagues from the Queensland Fire Department in multiple fire operations across the city.

As a result, police are currently investigating seven reported vegetation, building, and motor vehicle fires.

In separate incidents, police have charged a 15-year-old male, a 13-year-old female, and a 14-year-old female, all from Mount Isa, with one count each of lighting a deliberate motor vehicle fire.

They are scheduled to appear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court on October 22.

A 42-year-old Northern Territory man was also arrested and charged with one count of deliberately lighting a vegetation fire.

He is scheduled to appear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court on October 10.

Mount Isa Police are urging residents to report any suspicious activity related to potential fires by contacting emergency services immediately.
