Police are searching for the driver of a stolen vehicle that fled the scene of a hit-and-run crash in Townsville, which left an injured motorist trapped inside his car and requiring rescue by firefighters.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Bowen Rd and Hodel St in Rosslea, around 5.55pm on Friday.
According to police, a suspected stolen SUV collided with a grey Toyota Yaris before the occupants of the SUV fled the scene.
Emergency crews, including firefighters, rushed to free the 30-year-old male driver of the Yaris, which had sustained significant damage to its front end.
The man, trapped inside the vehicle, had to be cut free by a team of firefighters as concerned onlookers gathered at the scene.
Once freed, the man was placed on a stretcher and transported to Townsville University Hospital.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed that the driver had suffered a leg injury but was in stable condition.
Despite the severity of the incident, traffic continued to flow in both directions along Bowen Rd.
Police are yet to arrest any suspects and their investigation is ongoing.
