Little Mermaid set to return to Townsville Civic Theatre soon

The highly anticipated The Little Mermaid musical was cancelled before it could finish — but now it’s set to return. Take a look behind the scenes before it does.

One of Disney’s most beloved animated films The Little Mermaid is returning to the Townsville Civic Theatre this week.

The Townsville Choral Society production originally hit the stage in January but due to Covid-19 had to cancel the second week of its run.

But its set to make a comeback with a few minor changes to delight young and old.

Co-director Andrew Higgins said it was a show not to be missed.

“The stage show has got a few extra songs and a few bits just to have some surprises but it is

still true to the original story,” he said.

“There are the same characters and some of the hit songs including Part of Your World and

Under the Sea.”

Cast member Adrian Corbett, who plays Scuttle the Seagull, said the cast and crew were

excited to return to the stage.

“Unfortunately due to Covid-19 we did not get to complete the second week but we have been gifted the chance to come back and remote it with a few new small changes,” Mr Corbett said.

He said the show in January was fantastic and well received.

“There are so many visual spectacles in the show the kids just adored it, the costuming, the

set, the choreography and the fact that we have a flying rig so have cast members flying

across the stage at different times it is phenomenal.”

He said there were still tickets available for the Wednesday and Thursday night performances.

“It you want the good seats we strongly encourage you to come Wednesday or Thursday,” Mr Corbett said.

“There are a few seats left on the weekend but Wednesday and Thursday are the nights to

come down if you want to be covered in bubbles and interact with the jellyfish and the

seagulls, those are the nights to come.”

The show runs from Wednesday to Sunday and tickets are available from TicketShop on
