As the sod was officially turned on the CopperString project, it can be revealed former Townsville mayor Jenny Hill has been appointed a director of Powerlink’s Board.

Powerlink owns, develops, operates, and maintains the high voltage transmission network across Queensland, extending 1700km from Cairns to the New South Wales border.

As mayor for 12 years, Ms Hill was a strong advocate of the CopperString project led by Powerlink, with her appointment increasing female representation to 56 per cent.

Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment Cameron Dick lauded Ms Hill’s strong commercial and analytical skills with a 20-plus-year career in local government.

“Powerlink and Queensland will benefit from the wealth of experience that Jenny Hill, a North Queensland local, will bring to the role and the business,” Mr Dick said.

“Ms Hill has been a strong advocate for the CopperString transmission line because she knows the benefits it will bring to North Queensland.

“Her position on the board guarantees that North Queenslanders have a voice in decision making for major projects like the Copperstring transmission line.

“I look forward to working closely with Ms Hill and the Board, as we continue our energy transformation and work towards delivering cheaper, cleaner energy for generations to come.”

Energy and Clean Economy Jobs Minister Mick de Brenni

“We welcome Jenny to the board at a time when Powerlink is connecting more renewable energy more efficiently, with more community support than any transmission provider in Australia, possibly the world.

“The vast majority of infrastructure investment under the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan is in the regions, so it makes sense to have an experienced regional Queenslander part of the team leading the organisation,” Mr de Brenni said.
