A flood-ravaged North Queensland cricket club is keeping the scoreboard ticking over as it continues to build back from the February disaster.
Herbert River Cricket Association Junior President Shawn Hague said he was confident the club would be able to battle back after Queensland Country Bank donated two new marquees to replace those that were lost.
“This donation means we can not only provide our players with shade during the season, but it also means we can put our money toward other recovery efforts,” he said.
“To be supported by Queensland Country Bank is huge and we are so grateful for its commitment to making sure sport continues in North Queensland, and in particular Ingham, following the floods.”
The club has received widespread support from the wider Australian cricket community, including from Bulls Masters Managing Director Jimmy Maher and former Queensland and Australian cricket great Carl Rackemann who recently donated badly needed cricket equipment to replace the gear destroyed in the floods.
Townsville cricket clubs and Queensland cricket also stepped in to help the club.
The donation of the marquees is in addition to Queensland Country Bank’s $30,000 contribution to the GIVIT North and Far North Queensland Flood appeal earlier this year.
CEO Aaron Newman said that as a member-owned bank that put people before profits, it was pleased to contribute to Ingham’s flood recovery efforts.
“Cricket holds a special place in our heart, as we are the principal partner for the Brisbane Heat, so we are excited to be able to support Ingham and the Herbert River Cricket Association.”
