The next generation of athletes and performers at Belgian Gardens State School will receive a welcome boost with the LNP government promising $700k for a new hall extension.

Herbert MP Philip Thompson said it’s important to give back to young people in the community.

“Our children need to be given opportunities to succeed and chase their dreams, and that’s why I’m so proud to back this project for Belgian Gardens State School,” he said.

The funding will help build a performing arts stage and full-size indoor court, replacing the previous facilities, which Mr Thompson said are well overdue for an upgrade.

“The current hall at Belgian Gardens State School can’t hold a full audience for performances, and it’s too small for indoor sports like basketball, volleyball and netball,” he said.

“We all want the best for our kids. Let’s give them the stage - and the court - to show what they can do.”

Belgian Gardens State School P&C Association president Luke Lawton said the funding boost is a “game-changer” for students.

“It will provide our students with a state-of-the-art space to achieve their fullest potential in sports and performing arts,” he said.

“We’re thrilled to welcome this investment in our students and community.”

Mr Thompson said the school shows a promising growth in performing arts and sports programs, and the upgrades will allow the students to explore both areas.

“For the music students, this means they will have a stage to practice on and demonstrate their skills,” he said.

“For the athletes, it’s a full court to train on, protected from the harsh sun, giving them a chance to reach their full potential.”

“The lack of space is holding these students back when they’ve already shown they can achieve so much.”
