Man suffers critical injuries in latest e-scooter crash
An e-scooter rider has suffered critical injuries in the latest collision with a vehicle in Townsville.
The Queensland Police and Ambulance services confirmed they were called to the scene of the incident on or near the intersection of Ramsay and Clarke streets in Garbutt at 3.42pm.
Both service said information from the scene of the serious accident was sketchy with it remaining unclear as to whether the accident involved a pedestrian or PEV rider.
A QAS spokesman said a man had suffered “life-threatening injuries” and had been transported to Townsville University Hospital.
Pictures from the scene of the accident appear to confirm the PEV was an e-scooter.
A QPS spokesman said the Forensic Crash Unit, (which investigates serious accidents) would attend the scene.
It is potentially the second such serious accident involving an e-scooter (PEV) rider in Townsville in less than two weeks and follows multiple deaths across Queensland this year.
QPS recently urged parents and caregivers “to learn and understand their legal responsibilities when considering gifting e-scooters or e-bikes this Christmas”.
