Garbutt could soon be home to Townsville’s newest doggy daycare and groomers, with space for 50 pooches.

Petcare Agency Pty Ltd has lodged a proposal with Townsville City Council to set up a Dogtopia Retreat at 337 Woolcock St, Garbutt.

The 50-dog daycare and grooming service would provide hydro baths, nail clipping, ear and teeth cleaning, grooming and behavioural training.

Dogtopia Retreat currently has one centre in Currajong.

Plans show the daycare will operate from 6.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and grooming services will open from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday.

Dog training services will also be offered as an ancillary service, conducted predominantly indoors.

The proposal also outlined the centre’s plans to ensure noise management, including installing a 3m fence for the full perimeter of the outdoor play area.

“Any outdoor play time is prioritised away from the northern and eastern boundaries were possible, undertaken under supervision at all times and only undertaken in small groups,” it said.

“When an animal or animals start to exhibit behaviour that could lead to excessive barking, they are immediately relocated to the building.”

Public submissions for the application will close on December 14.
