The sudden death of a young child has sparked unrest in a remote Queensland community as detectives arrive to investigate.

The sudden death of a young child has sparked unrest in a remote Queensland community as child protection detectives arrive to investigate.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a young child at the troubled Gulf town of Doomadgee, located 1150km northwest of Townsville.
Police were advised the child had died in hospital just after 4am on Tuesday.
Initial investigations indicate the child had been taken to the hospital a short time before, according to a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman.
“Family and friends of the child are naturally distraught and community members upset,” she said.
“Detectives from Child Protection and Investigation Units will be attending and conducting investigations.
“No further information is available at this time.”
