A former Toowoomba National Disability Scheme worker who repeatedly stole from his client to fit-out his four-wheel drive has been fined $3152 after pleading guilty to the disgraceful crime.

A Toowoomba court heard the young man, Alzavian Brock Chicken, was the primary carer of the 48-year-old NDIS recipient who was non-verbal.

Over a three-month period between November 2023 and January 2024, Chicken used the woman’s credit card details to make online purchases such as a lift-kit, a 4WD snorkel, a wheel alignment booking, and his registration bill.

However, the registration payment was not successful.

He also used the woman’s card to purchase fuel from a Kearneys Spring service station and made a $144 transaction on the Australia Wide First Aid website.

The court heard Chicken was enrolled at UniSQ to study paramedical science.

When spoken to by police, Chicken said some of the transactions were made because the payment section online was automatically filled with the woman’s details.

He also claimed another colleague had “set him up” and he had not purchased the $966 snorkel despite the car part being shipped to his brother’s address.

The snorkel was the first and most expensive purchase he made using the woman’s bank details which occurred on November 8, 2023.

However, during the initial investigation, he did admit to buying the $325 lift on November 16, 2024.

After charges were laid, Chicken lost his NDIS job and Blue Card, and has since started working in the construction industry as a pipe layer.

The court heard the soon-to-be dad had no prior entries on his criminal history.

Chicken fronted Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 26, and pleaded guilty to eight charges of fraud.

He was fined $1200, and ordered to pay back $1952.52 to the Commonwealth Bank, which had reimbursed the woman when the fraudulent transactions were discovered.

A conviction was not recorded as it was his first offence.
