A pair missing since Sunday have been found safe after eerie pictures emerged of their abandoned car with “SOS” written on the roof.
Local vet Tiffanie, 29, and Thomas, a 32-year-old English bartender, went missing after they were last seen together at Darwin’s Foreshore Cafe on Sunday.
They left in a black Toyota Prado with number plate “FOUR B”, along with black and white pet dog, Ruby.
Concerned friends raised the alarm when they did not return as expected – with a local pilot finding their bogged car in the Gunn Point area with a call for help written on the rooftop tent.
On Tuesday morning search and rescue deployed ground teams to the popular camping spot an hour from Darwin, with help from mounted units, a helicopter and volunteers.
The pair were found safe by a search helicopter a short time later at Gunn Point Beach.
Friends on social media said it was “out of character” for Tom and Tiffanie to go missing, and guessed the pair had become bogged and gone on foot for help.
Police thanked the public for their assistance.
“Police are reminding the public to exercise caution when driving through bushland areas,” NT Police said in a statement.
“Always take proper precautions, such as informing family or friends of your travel plans and expected return times, to ensure your safety in case of an emergency.”
